BuyAway

For the aisle between the gate and the plane

Stop doing currency maths in the aisle.

Scan the barcode. BuyAway finds what the same thing costs back home, converts it at today's rate, and gives you a verdict before the queue moves.

Barcodes are read on your phone, not in a cloud. No price here is ever guessed.

The app's home screen: a chip at the top reads Greece, 1 euro is about 3.95 shekels; under the words Tap to scan sits the big orange SCAN button, then a Search by name pill; along the bottom a card reads My trip, 2 to buy, 1 bought, saved 41 shekels.

The premise

Duty-free is not a discount. It's a question.

Sometimes the airport bottle really is cheaper. Often the supermarket at home beats it, once you convert honestly and remember the tax is already in the price. BuyAway answers the question in the time it takes to lift the bottle off the shelf.

How it works

Lift the bottle, scan it, get the answer.

Real prices from home, today's rate, one clear verdict — before the queue moves.

Scan

Point the camera at the barcode. Shop-printed codes nobody knows? Photograph the label and the words on it find the product instead.

Compare

The price back home comes from real shelves, not an estimate — published retail prices, checked against what other travellers recorded.

Decide

One verdict, in your currency, with the rate and its age shown. Buy it here, wait for home, or about the same. Then tick it off.

Plan before you fly

List what you mean to buy and what it costs at home. Scanning it abroad goes straight to a verdict.

The customs allowance

Everything in your basket counts against the duty-free allowance of the country you live in, so the total never surprises you at arrivals.

Tax-free, explained

What the refund is roughly worth, the minimum spend, and the honest note that a foreign VAT rate is already inside the shelf price.

Prices from people

The price you record joins an anonymous aggregate other travellers see. Switch it off any time; your own data stays yours.

Works on a bad connection

Rates are kept on the phone and labelled with their age. A stale rate is shown as stale, never passed off as live.

Speaks your language

English, Hebrew, Russian and Spanish, in one typeface, with prices formatted the way your country writes them.

No guessed prices. Ever.

No price here is invented. Every verdict rests on a real price and a real exchange rate, both shown with their age. The camera reads barcodes and label text on the phone itself; when there is nothing to compare against, BuyAway says so rather than making a number up.

Your data

Read on your phone, not in our cloud.

Barcodes are decoded on the device and label photos never leave it. Your account holds only what it takes to sync your lists, hosted in the EU, and you can erase all of it yourself from Settings. The privacy policy is written to be read, not scrolled past.

  • No adverts and no third-party tracking; the one counter we keep is anonymous and can be switched off.
  • Location is off by default and never stored.
  • Other travellers see only anonymous aggregates, never your name or your prices.
  • Delete your account in the app, and everything tied to it goes with it.
